Do you have trouble falling asleep at night? Maybe you toss and turn all night. Maybe you wake up too early in the morning. Sometimes sleep can be elusive, but it’s vital for the health of your brain.
Contrary to popular belief, alcohol will not help you sleep better. Never drink alcohol before going to bed. Alcohol and sleep don’t mix. Alcohol interrupts the REM cycles in the normal sleep process. Instead of waking up refreshed, you’re exhausted.
Adopting a wellness lifestyle helps. Get plenty of exercise, make nutritious food choices, create a healthy work/play balance each day.
If that doesn’t help, consider the possibility of an undiagnosed allergy. Allergies to food, fillers in vitamin supplements, additives, scents, chemicals, and ingredients in skin care products can keep you awake at night. You can even be allergic to some organic foods and herbs.
Start a diary to determine your allergies. Keep track of everything you eat throughout the day, including your vitamins and supplements. Do the same with the products you use, like lotions, shampoo, conditioner, makeup, moisturizer, body sprays, and perfumes.
After a while patterns will emerge, showing you which foods, scents, and personal care products are disturbing your sleep. Eliminate them from your life.
Sometimes discovering hidden allergies may be all you need to get a good night’s sleep. Sweet dreams!
